Subaru’s Ascent is the no-nonsense vehicle of the three-row SUV world. It’s designed to excel at its intended job without any excessive flash or flair. Shuttling seven or eight passengers from point A to point B, regardless of weather or road conditions, is the Ascent’s operational directive. Recently though, it’s gained a bit more personality as Subaru looks to expand the vehicle’s appeal.

Subaru’s mid-size sedan may have been ahead of its time. Having offered all-wheel drive for decades, the few competitors it has left have been going the same route lately. But the Legacy remains the only sedan in its class to come standard with all wheel drive. It is a Subaru after all.

Subaru has just taken the wraps off the 2026 Forester Wilderness. Built on the new Forester platform that debut last year, this is the first second-generation Wilderness model in the brand’s lineup. Although there’s no radical departure from Subaru’s Wildernessification, there are some new pieces here and there.

As promised last year, Subaru has just introduced the 2025 Forester Hybrid, or the 2025 Subaru Forester e-BOXER Hybrid for Canadian consumers. As one of the last SUVs in its segment to garner a hybrid option, the new gas-electric Forester helps position Subaru’s high-selling utility box against fierce competition. 

Before we get too far into this festival of definitions and hair-splitting, it is important to know that – absent of all other considerations – power to all four wheels simply gets you up to crashing speed more quickly. Four- (or all-) wheel drive does nothing to improve stopping distances and does very little if your vehicle is equipped with worn tires that resemble party balloons.

A newcomer to the rapidly growing small all-electric SUV market, the Subaru Solterra is already undergoing some significant changes for the 2024 model year. Safety, charging, and aesthetics have all been tweaked.

If you squint reaaaal hard, the newest Subaru WRX might look like it’s been given the STI treatment. The blue paint, the shiny brakes, the red badging — it’s there, and it has, sorta.

With the Subaru WRX STI no longer on sale, the regular WRX has taken the reigns as the top performing Subaru. Designed to appeal to a larger crowd of consumers, the WRX is a lot fun to drive, but a bit soft around the edges for those that really like to push their cars.

That is a truly impressive feat for a car so unassuming and lacking in flash or pretention. It is what it is, as the saying goes, and for Subaru that is indeed a good thing.
