Scout Motors, Volkswagen’s new EV offshoot, will be tapping into software and zonal architecture developed by "rival" Rivian when it starts production in 2027.

Currently, Rivian offers the R1T and S Adventure with dual-motor AWD, a Performance dual-motor AWD setup, and a quad-motor AWD setup. There’s no telling exactly how the new trim levels will change these offerings, but we should find out soon- Rivian’s NHTSA paperwork shows these changes could take effect for 2025 model year trucks and SUVs.

Today, Rivian announced its next electric vehicles: a small SUV starting around $45,000 called the R2, a CUV it calls the R3, and a performance off-roader based on the latter called the R3X. The R2 was a known quantity, especially after so many of its specifics were found yesterday embedded in the HTML code on Rivian’s website.

As reported by CarBuzz, a Twitter (X, if you must) user, Chris Hilbert, has discovered specs for the upcoming Rivian R2 buried in the Rivian website’s HTML code. While Rivian has since altered the site to prevent users from continuing to view the specs themselves, the cat is absolutely out of the bag. If the source code is to be believed, it shows a smaller Rivian SUV with a starting price of $47,500 and a range of up to 330 miles.

The R2 should arrive in the $45,000 to $50,000 range.

Pricing for the Rivian R1T and R1S has fallen by $3,100, per Automotive News. The R1T now starts at $71,700 including destination, and the R1S now begins at $76,700. The two qualify for the government’s $3,750 tax incentive, but lessees will benefit from the full $7,500 amount. However, Rivian’s lease program is only available in certain states at the moment.

Now anyone can buy an Amazon electric delivery van.
