Rivian's RJ Scaringe Technically Got Paid $403M In 2025—But Not Really
With great power comes great responsibility, and as it turns out, great pay.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe just cashed in, with his 2025 pay ringing in to the tune of $403 milllion in compensation. That doesn't make him just well-paid, but it makes him among the best-paid people of his caliber across the board. The number is also very misleading.
Long story short, Rivian is out for blood. The all-electric automaker is pushing hard as hard gets, with the R2 launch marking the brand's next phase and possibly the most important one at that.
All of this pressure—and risk—means the CEO of Rivian is reaping the benefit of his efforts, or the fruits of his labor, depending on how you look at it.
Time to get down to brass tacks. According to Rivian Trackr, most of Scaringe's $403 million in total compensation for 2025 is paper value. It breaks down to $373 million from stock options and $26.6 million from stock awards, while his salary was only $1.1 milion with another $1 million in bonuses. Only the salary and bonuses are actual cash, with the stock options only becoming real money if Rivian stock increases by 9x over the next decade.
Think he's doing well? His salary is, as per the brand's documents, going to double in the Year-Over-Year numbers.
We're big fans of Rivian here at AutoGuide, and we know that Scaringe is working his tail off to ensure that his company succeeds. It wouldn't be a shock to see his paycheck increase as the years go by, and hopefully, it coincides with the brand's triumphs.
