Electric Porsche Macan Coming With 800V Charging

The next-generation Porsche Macan, set to go into production at an undisclosed date, will spawn a purely electric variant with 800v fast charging, the German manufacturer has announced.

In a statement, Porsche said the Macan EV’s development “represents an expansion of the Porsche range in the field of electromobility.”

The first fully electric, series production Porsche, the Taycan sedan will arrive later this year, with the Taycan Cross Turismo, a high-riding wagon variant of the Taycan, set to go into production shortly after.

The Macan EV will feature the same 800V fast-charging system as the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo and will ride on the same PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture, the automaker says.

Production of the electric crossover, along with any gas/diesel/plug-in variants it may spawn, will take place at Porsche’s factory in Leipzig, Germany.

The Taycan, Taycan Cross Turismo and Macan EV represent only a small percentage of the electrified models the automaker will debut over the next five to six years.

“Electromobility and Porsche go together perfectly; not just because they share a high efficiency approach, but especially because of their sporty character,” said Porsche chariman Oliver Blume. “By 2022 we will be investing more than six billion euros in electric mobility, and by 2025 50% of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system. Nevertheless, over the next ten years we will focus on a drive mix consisting of even further optimised petrol engines, plug-in hybrid models, and purely electrically operated sports cars. Our aim is to take a pioneering role in technology, and for this reason we will continue to consistently align the company with the mobility of the future.”
