Run As Fast As You Can From Used Cars Made By These Brands
Consumer Reports recently conducted its first survey focused on used vehicles by brand.
The usual suspects emerged as the top choices for used car buyers, with Toyota and its luxury division, Lexus, along with Honda and Acura crowding the top spots. But what about the other end of the spectrum, which brands have the worst reputation for used cars?
The survey, which covered over 150,000 vehicles, aims to identify car reliability trends from the 2014 to 2019 model years. Now I wonder about all their recommendations since the used Chryslers and Dodges that I purchased had and have been great cars. In particular, the 2017 PHEV Chrysler Pacifica which I purchased used has been an absolute delight to own. Since it seats 7, I've hauled family and their dogs, loaded 4X8 sheets of building materials, slept overnight in it and driven coast to coast numerous times. Never a problem, it's quiet, quick, handles beautifully and gets good gas mileage. In addition to these, I've owned Jaguars, Fiats, Volkswagens, a Porsche and a Ferrari - all used and all had issues of some sort. Last year I bought my very first new car - a '23 Stingray.
