People Are Loving These SUVs Right Now

It used to be so simple. An SUV was a body-on-frame utility vehicle with a two-speed transfer case and a rugged design, while a crossover was a car-based ‘ute with a comparatively basic all-wheel drive system. As our list of the most-researched SUVs for this month proves, things aren’t so simple any longer.

This list was compiled using data provided exclusively to AutoGuide via AutoFinder.com — an automotive marketplace featuring over 3 million new and used vehicle listings, connecting consumers with top dealerships nationwide to easily find and secure the best deal on a car, truck, or SUV.

Nobody who knows anything about cars is going to suggest that a Toyota RAV4 or Hyundai Palisade is a competitor to the Chevrolet Tahoe or Jeep Wrangler. Still, all of these seemingly disparate vehicles fall under the “utility vehicle” designation. Which models garner the most interest from online shoppers?

As you can see from the list above, car-based people movers with two and three rows, like the Nissan Rogue and Subaru Outback, share space on this list with truck-based SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe and dedicated off-road models like the Jeep Wrangler.

Before we get too upset, though, let’s realize what this list is really displaying: These are the utility vehicles that people want to buy to schlep their families and their belongings around in town, on the highway, and when the pavement ends.

The fact that the Toyota RAV4 leads the list isn’t surprising. Toyota’s compact crossover is one of the best-selling vehicles in America. The Hyundai Palisade was recently redesigned, and it’s an excellent choice for buyers who need three rows of seats. The Chevy Equinox is priced attractively compared to its rivals, and the Lexus RX has been the Japanese luxury brand’s best-selling nameplate for as long as any of us can remember.

If there’s a surprise on the list, it might be the Jeep Wrangler. It’s an off-road specialist in a segment of comfortable crossovers. The fact that it has so much presence in the real world and online proves how strong its unique wind-in-your-hair design can be to car buyers.
