Ford Introduces 2026 Mustang FX, Inspired by the Fox Body We’re Told

1980s nostalgia is rampant these days. As Gen X enters (or surpasses) middle age, there’s a lot of disposable income waiting to be spent on anything that brings back fond memories of one’s youth. Ford is ready to satisfy those needs with the 2026 Mustang FX.
The FX stands for Fox Body, the beloved Mustang that lasted from the late 1970s into the early 1990s. The new car is inspired by the classic ‘Stang we're told. Ford states “The 2026 Mustang FX Package blends vintage styling cues with modern execution to show how Mustang can highlight its legacy while still looking toward the future.”
Teal is Bodacious
The most notable feature of the Mustang FX is the exterior paint. Although it can be had in different colors, the Adriatic Blue Metallic is inspired by the Teal paint many classic Fox Body Mustangs adorned. That paint will be available on other trims of Mustang next year as well.
Less obvious of a styling cue are the wheels. Standard on the FX are five-spoke wheels based on the current Mustang’s design. The Performance package receives new wheels that are based on Fox Body designs according to the manufacturer. We can see a bit of the 10-hole wheel in there, but they don’t overtly resemble any wheel from the most popular Fox Bodies. There’s a missed opportunity here for a nice three spoke TRX tribute.
Regardless which wheel is equipped on the FX, they will be painted mid-gloss Oxford White and feature color-matched center caps and a Ford Mustang wordmark. We’re surprised the wheels are not silver, as most Fox Bodies came with silver wheels. While on the topic of Oxford white, the taillights, as well as the 5.0-liter, GT, and Mustang Pony badges, are all painted that color while Performance pack models also have white nostrils. Regular FX Mustangs will have dark carbonized grey nostrils.
Plaid is Rad
Perhaps the coolest part of the FX package are the seats. They are perforated leather seats up front but include a painted-on plaid insert pattern. Even better is the fact this design can be had on the regular seats or the upgraded Recaro buckets. There’s also dual contrast stitching of City Silver and Adriatic Blue on the seats, dash, door panels, steering wheel, and center console. Finally, a Mustang GT IP badge, in the FX Package-specific font, is also added to the interior.
The 2026 Mustang FX is bright, flashy, and will definitely get noticed. When we see it do we think Fox Body? Not really. Other than the paint, we just don't see the resemblance.
Starting in late June, those interested in the 2026 Mustang FX package will be able to begin placing orders. Ford is offering a lot of availability for the package, as any GT Premium model can have it added, regardless if it’s a coupe, convertible, manual transmission, or automatic.

Probably 70k. I feel deep down that they are intentionally trying to kill off this car.
