We're Driving The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI And R: Ask Us Anything

VW's updated hot hatches get even hotter this year, and we're on-hand at the first drive for a shakedown.
Hello from the sunny state of Virginia, where I've just touched down for the first drive of the refreshed 2025 Volkswagen GTI and Golf R. Before I do that, though—what do you want to know?
The standard disclaimer does not apply here: there is no embargo, so whatever you'd like to know, shoot it my way. A quick refresher: both of these hot hatches get styling tweaks for this year, including new lights and wheel designs, plus the now-expected light-up VW emblem. VW has brought in the larger touchscreen from the ID. Buzz, and added more physical controls—hallelujah. There are some Old World-flavored changes to specific trims as well, with the GTI SE getting the seat covers from the GTI Clubsport, and the R offering a lightweight Euro Style Package consisting of cloth seats, a sunroof delete, and Akrapovič titanium exhaust.
Powertrain changes include the removal of the six-speed manual—it's seven-speed dual-clutch only now—and a bump to 328 horsepower for the Golf R.

In 2017 I looked seriously at the R but no sunroof was a deal breaker. I bought a Camaro SS with the 6.2 litre and a sunroof. I would have preferred the R but coming from a convertible at the time I wanted a sunroof.
I ask any question according to the title of this material: what is the factory code of the engine of this car and where can I find its detailed characteristics?
