5 Retro Rad Vehicles that Need to Make a Comeback
Retro is cool. That’s been the case for quite some time.
The Chrysler PT Cruiser, last generation Ford Thunderbird, and basically every muscle car made in the last 20 years all harkened back to icons of the 1950s and 1960s. As time has moved on, so has the era in which is considered retro. Now, it’s cars from the 1980s and 1990s that keep making a comeback. We’ve already had the Acura NSX and Integra, the Toyota Supra, Nissan Z, and Lamborghini Countach. Soon, there will be a Ferrari Testarossa, Honda Prelude, and Toyota Celica.
So, what’s next? What other iconic cars, or at least nameplates, need to make a return? Below we’ve listed five names we’d love to see comeback and be at least a spiritual successor to the legends.

Buick Grand National
Folks have been asking for a Grand National ever since the late 1980s. Buick has even teased a return with a few concepts. But maybe now is the time for the all-SUV manufacturer to add a halo car to the lineup. Maybe base it on the Cadillac CT5-V? Or it could even be a ridiculously quick accelerating electric vehicle.
Honda CRX
Would it be overkill to bring back the Honda CRX with the Prelude just being introduced? Maybe, but maybe not. Imagine a shortened wheelbase, two seat sporty commuter. It could have the hybrid powertrain stock, and maybe a bigger turbo version for the Si.
GMC Syclone
This compact truck may have the most lore in history. Destroying exotic cars in streetlight drag races, GMC could use a sporty little pickup to complement the luxury and off-road offerings. The current Canyon has a potent four-cylinder already, that with a shorter ratio transmission and other sporty bits could bring the Syclone name back. Or…for a true Syclone, borrow the turbocharged V6 from the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.
Mazda GTX
Wishing for another Mazda RX is the easy play here, and the brand seems to forever be hinting it may return. But we had the RX-8 in the 2000s, so let’s go with something older. Remember the Mazda 323 GTX? The little turbocharged all-wheel drive hatchback was a rally-car for the streets before the Lancer EVO and Subaru WRX. The Mazda3 already has a turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive, but it’s not uncompromisingly sporty. What if a stiffer suspension, huge brakes, wider tires, and a sportier transmission were added? We could have a Mazda3 GTX.
Nissan Pulsar
With the Prelude and Celica coming back, why not resurrect Nissan’s competitor – the Pulsar. Always a funky little hatchback, maybe it could be built on the new Sentra’s platform and come with the Rogue’s turbocharged three-cylinder engine?
