Check The Vibes—Next-Gen 2027 Chevrolet Silverado Has Leaked

A recently published patent filing is offering an unusually clear look at what appears to be the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado, well ahead of its expected debut.

The drawings, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in August 2024 and granted in December, show a full-size pickup with a thoroughly reworked front end. AutoGuide used the patent drawings to create renders that should accurately depict the finished truck.

The lighting treatment is the biggest visual departure from the current truck. Chevrolet appears to be moving toward a C-shaped LED signature, with a slim daytime running light perched high and a curved LED element wrapping around the main headlamp below. It’s a look already familiar from the Tahoe and Suburban.

The grille remains large and upright, split by a horizontal bar that carries the bowtie emblem. Below, the bumper keeps the general shape Silverado buyers know, but the surfacing is sharper and more angular. The hood, too, looks more sculpted, with raised outer sections and a recessed center that gives the front end more of a "tough-guy" stance.

Around back, the patent sketches show taillights that are taller and more elongated than those on the current Silverado. Their outer edges appear to kick forward slightly into the bed side, a detail that brings them closer in spirit to the Silverado EV than the gas-powered truck on sale today. The rear bumper retains the familiar corner steps, and a horizontal trim element stretches across the tailgate beneath the Chevrolet badge.

The patent images don’t show the interior, but earlier spy photos of camouflaged prototypes suggest a major update inside as well. Those test trucks appeared to feature a wide, continuous digital display spanning from the instrument cluster toward the center of the dash, similar in layout to the large curved screens now used in several Cadillac models.

As for what will sit under the hood, Chevrolet is expected to carry over some familiar options, including the turbocharged four-cylinder and the Duramax diesel inline-six, with refinements. More importantly, GM has already confirmed development of a new generation of V8 engines intended for trucks and full-size SUVs starting in 2027, making the next Silverado a likely launch candidate.

There are strong indications GM's sixth-gen small block V8s will launch in two displacements: 5.7L and 6.6L, which should replace the existing 5.3L L84 V8 and the problematic 6.2L L87 V8.

Chevrolet, for its part, offered a standard response when asked about the filing, noting that GM routinely submits patent applications to protect intellectual property and that such filings are not always a preview of future products.

That's a good try from GM's public relations department, but with the current Silverado dating back to the 2019 model year, the timing aligns perfectly for a restyle. Look for the next-gen Silverado to debut next year, ahead of its availability in model year 2027.
