Scout Motors to Introduce Satellite Wi-Fi Connectivity
Scout Motors has announced plans to offer satellite connectivity as an option for its upcoming Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck during the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show.
The feature caters to off-grid adventurers and those who live in rural areas where traditional cellular service is unavailable. The satellite connectivity option will enable vehicles to serve as Wi-Fi hotspots, providing internet access for remote worksites, campsites, or homes. Scout vehicles are expected to debut in showrooms by 2027, when they do they will be pre-wired from the factory for satellite Wi-Fi connectivity.
While Scout has not disclosed the satellite provider, possibilities include partnerships with companies like Starlink.
“For peace of mind when off the grid or traveling in rural areas without cell service, to using your vehicle as a Wi-Fi hotspot for your home, worksite, or campsite, the available in-vehicle satellite connectivity is one more way Scout Motors is developing a true Connection Machine,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Scout Motors.
Scout’s announcement comes after over 70% of respondents in its customer clinics expressed strong interest in satellite internet capabilities.
At CES Scout also emphasized the design of its Community UX, which combines modern technology with tactile functionality to create an approachable and intuitive user experience. At the heart of this system are actual physical buttons, a feature that resonated during the vehicles’ launch event. The UX will be based on Rivian's zonal architecture.
The system blends traditional tactile controls with modern features like gesture-based controls and a touchscreen interface, offering what the company describes as “a seamless integration of intuitive technology, tactile controls, responsiveness, and adaptable design.”
