2024 Jeep Wagoneer S First Drive Review: All The Details
Jeep has officially entered the EV market with the 2024 Wagoneer S, its first fully electric model for North America. Built on the STLA Large platform, this all-electric SUV is positioned as a premium two-row alternative to the Grand Cherokee. With 600 horsepower, an estimated 303-mile range, and a design that subtly blends Jeep heritage with modern aerodynamics, the Wagoneer S is aimed squarely at upscale electric crossovers.
But does it still feel like a Jeep?

At a glance, the Wagoneer S could easily be mistaken for a Grand Cherokee refresh, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Jeep has chosen an evolutionary design rather than an overtly futuristic look, helping it blend into the existing lineup.
Up front, the seven-slot grille remains, albeit in a revised form, with indirect lighting that accentuates its recessed design.
The slim headlights add to the sophisticated look, and the full-width light bar follows the industry trend.
A massive rear wing, originally intended to be much smaller, was tripled in size to improve aerodynamics. The result is Jeep’s most aerodynamically efficient model to date, with a 0.29 drag coefficient—a significant achievement for an SUV.
From the side, the Wagoneer S retains classic Jeep styling cues such as trapezoidal wheel arches and a muscular stance. However, the rear design is a bold departure.
The Wagoneer S features a 100.5-kWh battery powering a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 600 hp and 617 lb-ft of torque. Jeep claims a 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds, making this one of the quickest Jeeps ever built.
Acceleration is strong but not always immediate. In Auto mode, there’s a noticeable two-step power delivery, but Sport mode eliminates this delay, offering a sharper, more aggressive throttle response.
Despite tipping the scales at 5,667 pounds, the Wagoneer S handles well, benefiting from a low center of gravity. Its steering is precise, and Jeep engineers have narrowed the tires (235-section) to improve responsiveness, making it more engaging than a typical electric SUV.
Testing in hilly terrain with frequent accelerations resulted in 3.25 miles per kWh, a nearly 10% improvement over official figures.
Charging capabilities include: 175-kW DC fast charging, adding 20-80% in around 35 minutes and 11-kW Level 2 charging for overnight top-ups at home.
Jeep has taken a premium approach with the Wagoneer S interior, incorporating design elements from its larger Wagoneer models.
The climate screen cleverly retracts to reveal additional storage, and the wireless charging pad is ventilated to prevent overheating.
Front seats offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions, and second-row passengers also get heated and ventilated seats. However, headroom in the rear is limited due to the sloping roofline.
The 19-speaker McIntosh audio system delivers high-quality sound, and Jeep’s new Plug & Charge feature simplifies public charging sessions.
The Wagoneer S debuts Jeep’s new highway driving assist system, featuring a touch-sensitive steering wheel to prevent "cheat wiggles" often used to trick lane-keep systems.
Cargo space includes: 30.1 cubic feet behind the second row, 60 cubic feet with seats folded, 3.0 cubic feet frunk.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition starts at $71,995 in the U.S. and $91,690 CAD in Canada, including destination fees.
While it lacks the off-road prowess of traditional Jeeps, it excels as a road-focused luxury SUV with serious performance credentials.
The styling is familiar yet forward-thinking, and the premium interior, strong range, and quick acceleration should appeal to buyers who may not have considered a Jeep before.
