People love Ford's Ranger Raptor in the U.S., but some enthusiasts still want more. Enter the Australian-market Ranger Super Duty, a new version of the midsize truck that is unlike anything the Blue Oval has ever put out—it’s a new fit that many Americans are hoping Ford will bring stateside.

Key Points

  • The Australian-market Ranger Super Duty is a more rugged and capable version of the popular midsize truck, featuring upgraded suspension, reinforced axles, steel bash plates, and a hood-mounted snorkel for extreme off-road conditions.
  • With a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine, the Ranger Super Duty offers an impressive towing capacity of 9,921 pounds, nearly 2,000 pounds more than the standard Ranger
  • Ranger Super Duty comes equipped with an onboard scale that projects the current load onto the infotainment screen, allowing the driver to track cargo weight in real time

The Ranger Super Duty rides on an upgraded frame with reinforced suspension mounts, a heavy-duty rear axle, and extra underbody protection, including steel bash plates, all designed to withstand the harshest off-road excursions.

The 33-inch off-road tires—ripped from the Ranger Raptor—are bolted onto eight-stud wheels with thicker studs to handle heavier loads. The truck’s stance is taller and wider, thanks to a modest lift and beefed up track.

Ford offers several configurations of the Ranger Super Duty, including Single-Cab Chassis, Super- and Double-Cab Chassis, and the traditional Double-Cab pickup, which is targeted at work truck customers. A standard 34-gallon fuel tank comes equipped, giving it a range that's more in line with its heavy-duty capabilities.

Under the hood, the Ranger Super Duty boasts an upgraded 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, though Ford has yet to release specific power and torque numbers. In the standard Australian Ranger, this engine delivers 247 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. However, with the new kit and upleveled capabilities, the Ranger Super Duty is likely more powerful.

The truck also features a hood-mounted snorkel for tackling extreme conditions like deep water crossings.

One of the headline features is its impressive towing capacity, with the Ranger Super Duty able to yank up to 9,921 pounds—nearly 2,000 pounds more than the standard Ranger, and even exceeding the towing capacity of a base F-150 in the U.S.

Payload details remain sparse, the Super Duty comes equipped with an onboard scale that projects the current load onto the infotainment screen, allowing the driver to track cargo weight in real time—a useful feature that could see integration into other Ford pickups in the future.

Although full details are still pending, the Ranger Super Duty is expected to go on sale in Australia in 2026. It doesn't matter how much you want Ford to bring this tough, off-road-ready truck across the Pacific—it's probably not going to happen.

Just imagine what would happen to F-150 sales.
