Mercedes-AMG Unveils GT XX Concept Previewing New Super Sedan
Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off the GT XX, the brand's latest electric concept that offers a look at what the next-generation AMG GT 4-Door Coupe could become.
The GT XX offers 1,340 horsepower from a tri-motor setup and a design that veers sharply from Mercedes' established design language.
The GT XX rides on the upcoming AMG.EA architecture, a dedicated EV platform built using a mix of aluminum, steel, and composite materials.
The platform’s flexibility is key to AMG’s future plans, with the GT XX previewing a future flagship model that will crown the automaker's next wave of high-performance EVs.
Power comes from three axial flux motors—one mounted at the front axle and two at the rear—for a total output of more than 1,341 horsepower (1,000 kW).
With fully variable all-wheel drive and electric torque vectoring, the concept promises ferocious straight-line speed.
Supporting that powertrain is a new silicon-enhanced battery pack featuring cylindrical cells and a unique coolant system that surrounds each cell individually.
Mercedes claims this battery achieves 300 Wh/kg of energy density and can add nearly 250 miles of range in just five minutes.
At the front, a massive illuminated grille dominates, integrating both auxiliary lighting and active aero elements.
The rear end features six circular taillights and an illuminated light panel capable of displaying text and animations.
Active aero surfaces include a deployable airbrake and underbody diffusers to optimize downforce and stability.
The GT XX is finished in a shade of “Sunset Beam” orange, with side skirts embedded with luminescent paint that glows under alternating current.
The wheels—21-inch aero units—feature active vanes that open or close depending on thermal demands or aerodynamic needs.
Instead, the cabin resembles a high-end racing simulator. A 14-inch infotainment screen and 10.25-inch digital cluster are complemented by a steering wheel patterned after the AMG One.
The seats, console, and exposed carbon-fiber roof suggest a relentless focus on weight savings and visual impact.
Even the floor covering is made entirely from recycled materials, pointing to AMG’s growing attention to sustainability.
But Mercedes has confirmed that the motors and battery architecture will go into production next year, debuting first in the electric AMG GT 4-Door.
What remains to be seen is how much of the concept’s radical exterior and experimental cabin will carry through to production—and whether its extreme charging tech will be ready for the real world.
