Buick’s new entry level model is not quite a car nor is it an SUV. The Envista is something new and combines the styling of a SUV coupe with the pricing of a premium subcompact sedan. It’s the brand’s new entry level model and looks to appeal to traditional sedan buyers.

Power for the new model comes from a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Envista is only available with front-wheel drive.

Buick Envista Overview

The 2024 Buick Envista presents itself as a stylish and affordable entrant in the subcompact crossover segment, combining coupe-like design cues with a focus on delivering premium features at an accessible price. Replacing the Buick Encore, the Envista shares its underpinnings with the Chevrolet Trax but distinguishes itself with an upscale design and thoughtful details. Its sloping roofline, distinctive C-pillar texture, and elegant interior finishes, like leatherette seats and blue contrast stitching, position it as a value-driven option for those seeking a refined look without breaking the bank.

Under the hood, a modest 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine delivers 137 horsepower, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. While lacking all-wheel drive, the Envista offers a surprisingly composed and smooth driving experience. The light steering and ample turbo torque keep it competitive for city driving, though highway acceleration requires patience.

The cabin impresses with its spaciousness, offering good legroom and practical cargo capacity. Advanced tech features like an 11-inch touchscreen, wireless phone mirroring, and a power tailgate enhance usability. However, compromises like limited rear headroom and mid-tier fuel economy highlight its budget-conscious roots.

The Envista stands out as a well-rounded, stylish option in the crowded subcompact market, delivering premium appeal without premium costs.
