Chevrolet has just announced the debut date for the new ZR1.
The flagship C8 Corvette ZR1 will make its public debut on July 25. Expectations are high for what will be the most powerful Corvette ever built by GM.
While official details remain shrouded the internet is convinced the new ZR1 will deliver around 800 horsepower from a boosted version of the Z06's 5.5-liter DOHC LT6 V8 engine. This engine is expected to be designated LT7 in GM nomenclature.
In the Z06, this engine produces 670 naturally aspirated horsepower and revs up to 8,600 RPM. There is speculation about whether the ZR1 will maintain the same rev range, as it's not necessary with forced induction and it could potentially affect the engine's longevity if allowed to spin that fast.
Some rumors suggest GM could swap the Z06's flat-plane crank for a conventional cross-plane crankshaft–this is similar to the strategy Ford employed with the 5.2-liter FPC Voodoo engine for the GT350 and the 5.2-liter CPC Predator engine that followed.
Whatever ends up under the engine hatch of the C8 ZR1 we'll know more on July 25.
