Volvo EX60 Gets 400 Miles of Range, 400kW Recharging
Range continues to become less and less of an issue for electric cars and Volvo is planning to take things a step further with the upcoming EX60 all-electric SUV. The promise, up to 400 miles (810 km) on a single charge with all-wheel drive models. That’s a hefty range, equalling or beating many conventional gasoline powered SUVs.
More than just range though, Volvo states this is the company’s fasting charge electric vehicle ever, regardless of weather conditions. Built on a new 800-volt electrical system platform, and using in-house developed software, the brand claims the EX60 can regain up to 168 miles of range in just 10 minutes when using a 400kW fast charger. Granted, there aren’t many 400kW chargers in North America, especially ones that actually pull a steady 400kW, but the infrastructure is improving and Volvo is poised to take advantage of it.
“The EX60 is designed to be a gamechanger,” says Anders Bell, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. “With our new electric vehicle architecture, we directly address the main worries that customers have when considering a switch to a fully electric car. The result is class-leading range and fast charging speeds, marking the end of range anxiety.”
The new vehicle is built on Volvo’s SPA3 electric car architecture, which integrates the battery directly into the structure of the EX60. The cell-to-body technology and in-house developed electric motors help save weight and increase efficiency.
The EV SUV is also the first Volvo built with the help of mega casting, which replaces hundreds of little parts with one big casted piece. This one again reduces complexity and weight. Finally, the EX60 will use Volvo’s Breathe Battery Technologies that allows the EV to, according to the brand, constantly adjust how the battery takes in power, keeping it in its ideal operating zone at all times and in all weather conditions.
All EX60 models will come with a 10-year warranty on the battery and we should finally get a complete look at the vehicle when it is introduced January 21, 2026.

Isn’t this the same brand you guys were telling us a few days ago not to buy because its quality is disastrous?
I guess the better range is a good thing for short hops, but I can drive the 720 miles from Edmonton to Vancouver in 13 hours (usually two short stops) in my ice machine without any hassle. Until I can do that in an EV I won't buy one.
