Ford Looks to Set Pikes Peak Record with Super Mustang Mach-E

Ford is no stranger to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, especially when it comes to electric vehicles. Two years ago the brand brought the all-electric 2023 SuperVan 4.2 and set a record for the Pikes Peak Open Challenge Car category of 8:47.682.

Last year the brand returned with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck with the goal of not only beating the SuperVan’s time but also taking a crack at setting the overall fastest time, currently held by the Volkswagen I.D. R at 7:57.148. The truck ultimately had a technical issue on course, and although it won overall, it did not set a new record time.

This year, Ford is heading back once again to Pikes Peak for the International Hill Climb, but with a new weapon; the Super Mustang Mach-E. Details are scarce as Ford only posted the new vehicle through the company’s social media channels. What we do know is that Romain Dumas will once again be piloting the vehicle, with a record setting pace the end goal.

The only other detail Ford has revealed at this time is that the uber-aggressive, wing-heavy Super Mustang Mach-E will generate 6,125 pounds of downforce. At what speed has not been confirmed, but last year Ford kept touting that the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck made 6,000 pounds of downforce at 150 mph, so we expect that’s the same speed the brand is basing the new vehicle’s downforce figure off.

Last year’s SuperTruck made 1,600 all-electric horsepower according to Ford, so we would wager a small increase in power for the Super Mustang Mach-E, or heck, maybe a massive boost in power. 2,000 is a nice round number, but sometimes mo’ power can lead to mo’ problems.

Regardless of what the final power figure is, we are sold on the new vehicle’s look and design. A lowered Mustang Mach-E looks quite nice, even when it has a couple plywood-sized wings on it. Those of you, like us, that want to catch this new Ford super EV in action, the 103rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will take place on June 22nd, 2005.
