The sharpest hot hatch on the market inches ever closer to the $50,000 mark.

Honda has revealed the pricing and fuel economy ratings for the 2026 Honda Civic Type R, and not much else. The bad news? The sticker is up an even $1,000 and combined with a slightly pricier destination charge, we're now talking about $48,090 in America, and that's before any dealer markups. The good news? Everything else looks identical, keeping the sharpest hot hatch on the market in fighting form another year.

This wasn't always a sure thing. While the rest of the 2025 Civic lineup saw important updates including a new hybrid powertrain, the 2025 model continued on with pre-facelift looks. The Type is on a different schedule, as it launched a year after the rest of the generation back in 2023, but complicating matters is the model's discontinuation in Europe. So it's good to see another model year, even if it is more expensive. As a refresher, the Type R throws down 315 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels, via what might be the best six-speed manual transmission in the business.

The Type R price has increased roughly $1,000 every year since this FL5 generation launched. On one hand, that's a whole lot of money for a Civic, even one as accomplished as this. On the other hand, it's still less than the average new-car transaction price. From that perspective, one of the best pure internal-combustion performance cars is still something of a deal, especially with rumors swirling that the next one could adopt a hybrid powertrain.

Who cares? Just keep raising the price and like most of us, Honda and the rest of the industry will, like us, just have to get along with less.

Especially when most drivers can't drive a manual transmission to begin with .
