New Aston Martin Rapide AMR is Fast and Exclusive

With only 210 units planned for production, the 2019 Aston Martin Rapide AMR will be one exclusive sedan.

The British luxury and performance marque revealed the latest addition to the growing AMR sub-brand on Tuesday. AMR promises to bring high-performance derivatives to each Aston Martin model with greater performance and sharper dynamics. The brand also previewed a Rapide AMR in 2017 with the AMR brand’s introduction.

The AMR treatment for the Rapide sedan includes a 5.9-liter V12 engine producing 580 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Die-hard Aston Martin fans will note it’s the same engine found in the Vantage GT12. Aston Martin engineers also reworked the eight-speed automatic transmission to flaunt a 0-62 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

Other performance upgrades include carbon-ceramic brake rotors closing in on 16 inches and a sport-tuned suspension, which also lowers the sedan 10 millimeters compared to a standard Rapide. Grip comes from Michelin Super Sport tires that wrap 21-inch forged wheels.

On the design front, the Rapide AMR looks strikingly similar to the Rapide AMR concept car shown last year—and that’s far from a bad thing. The sedan boasts a wider grille and circular daytime -running lights, which recall recent Zagato models. Of course, a handful of aerodynamic tweaks are also present; the Rapide AMR gains a front splitter, rear diffuser, and a carbon-fiber hood to keep the final weight figure down. Still, the sedan isn’t exactly petite since the Rapide AMR tips the scales at 4,387 pounds.

Moving inside, the sedan’s interior boasts numerous AMR details. The brand will offer three design themes for the cabin called Standard, Silhouette and Signature. Each interior motif provides its own unique set of colors, but no matter which, plenty of alcantara, leather, and carbon fiber washes over the cabin.

It’s unclear if the production allocation of 210 units is spoken for, but if there’s $240,000 merely sitting around, that’s the price of entry.
