Aston Martin Rapide to Be Replaced by New Lagonda, DBX Crossover
Aston Martin’s aging four-door Rapide will be replaced by not one, but two models.
Speaking with Car and Driver, CEO Andy Palmer revealed the company’s plan to introduce a five-door DBX crossover along with a new sports sedan that will carry the Lagonda badge. These two cars together will act as the successors to the Rapide, a sedan based on the DB9.
The new Lagonda won’t be the same as the current Lagonda Taraf which is sold exclusively in the Middle East (seen above). Palmer didn’t elaborate on the new sports sedan, but he did share some more details on the upcoming DBX crossover, which was teased as a two-door concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Palmer says the production version will have “a high seating position, making it more accessible, making it less intimidating particularly for female customers. The most obvious change will be that it’ll have five doors [including the hatch], not three doors. The luggage space needs to be able to take a suitcase, et cetera, so it’ll change but conceptually it’s correct. It will get a little higher, a little taller. But the overall dimensions are not far off.”
He went on to reveal that the production DBX will use a gasoline powerplant along with a plug-in hybrid setup when it is launched.
