2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid First Look: A Gas-Powered Electric Crossover
Nissan is officially bringing its long-running e-POWER technology to the U.S. market, introducing the 2027 Rogue Hybrid as the centerpiece of its North American crossover lineup. While series-hybrid setups have circulated globally for years, with Nissan logging nearly two million e-POWER sales across international markets, this marks the first time American buyers will see the configuration in a mainstream compact SUV.
The strategy targets drivers seeking EV-like driving characteristics without range anxiety or charging infrastructure dependencies.
2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid: All the Details
Mechanical Architecture: Series Hybrid Dynamics
The structural departure of the Nissan Rogue Hybrid lies in its series-hybrid arrangement. Unlike traditional parallel hybrids from Toyota or Honda, where both an internal combustion engine and electric motors can mechanically drive the wheels through a transmission or power-split device, the Rogue Hybrid’s combustion engine has no mechanical connection to the drivetrain.
- Powertrain Setup: A 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-three engine with 42% thermal efficiency acts solely as an onboard generator to feed a battery pack.
- Drive Output: Dual electric motors deliver a combined system output of 225 horsepower directly to the wheels.
- Standard AWD: All-wheel drive comes standard across the board via dedicated front and rear electric motors.
Because electric motors handle 100% of propulsion, torque delivery is instantaneous. The absence of a conventional step-gear transmission or CVT eliminates shift lag and engine flare under heavy acceleration, resulting in a linear torque curve similar to a battery-electric vehicle. Fuel economy is internally estimated at 40 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 38 mpg combined.
Chassis and Driving Refinement
To adapt e-POWER for North American driving conditions, Nissan tuned the system to handle higher average cruising speeds and varied pavement quality.
Regenerative braking functionality is expanded via Nissan’s updated e-Pedal system, which allows single-pedal operation down to a complete stop. Nissan has also integrated a "Smooth Stop" feature designed to modulate hydraulic brake pressure during the final moment of deceleration to lessen cabin pitch.
Feature | Details & Functionality |
System Horsepower | 225 hp (via dual electric motors) |
Estimated Fuel Economy | 40 City / 36 Hwy / 38 Combined MPG |
Drive Layout | Dual-Motor Electric All-Wheel Drive (Standard) |
Braking Features | One-Pedal e-Pedal with Smooth Stop modulation |

Cabin Technology & Driver Assistance
Inside, the Rogue Hybrid receives updated digital interfaces. Lower trims carry a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and matching digital instrument cluster, while higher trims upgrade to a 14.3-inch display integrated with Google built-in software, including Google Maps and Google Gemini integration. A class-exclusive 15-watt Qi2 magnetic wireless charger is standard, with dual chargers on top-tier models. Physical dials for basic HVAC functions have been retained alongside digital controls.
On the active safety front, the hardware running ProPILOT Assist has been updated:
- Sensor Upgrades: A new front radar and a forward-facing camera with a 20% wider field of view detect slowing traffic up to 33% sooner.
- Steering & Tracking: Steering authority increases by 12% for improved lane centering on sharper curves, with active tracking looking further ahead down the roadway.
- Hands-Off Traffic Jam Support: Optional on higher grades, enabling hands-off steering during low-speed, divided-highway traffic jams, alongside an automated lane-change feature activated by the turn signal.
Interior Packaging and Utility
Passenger packaging remains a priority. Rear side doors open to nearly 90 degrees to simplify child seat loading, backed by five LATCH anchors that allow center-position child seat mounting. Cargo capacity measures 31.1 cubic feet behind the second row and expands to 65.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.
Pricing and Market Rollout
The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid will enter dealerships in a phased rollout beginning in fall 2026 with the initial release of the SR AWD with SR Technology Package. The remaining trim lineup—spanning SV, SR, and Platinum—will follow in early 2027.

This isn’t an EV! Autoguide is getting really bad like other car websites!
They should offer an PHEV version of that I mean it’s right on the doorstep of a PHEV just a bit larger battery for charging and shoot for 50 miles total electric. With all that technology and utilizing the 1.5 L engine turbo charge engine and only achieving 40 miles per gallon city and upper 30s on the highway. That is truly horrible.
