Toyota Corolla Overview

The 2026 Toyota Corolla is a compact sedan available in three grades: LE, SE, and XSE. All models are powered by a 2.0L Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine paired with a Dynamic Shift continuously variable transmission (CVT) that utilizes a physical launch gear for initial acceleration. This powertrain produces 169 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque, achieving a manufacturer-estimated fuel efficiency of up to 35 MPG combined. The sedan is built on the TNGA-C platform, which provides a rigid structure and low center of gravity. Drivers can select from NORMAL, ECO, and available SPORT drive modes, and the XSE grade includes paddle shifters that engage 10 pre-set ratios for a more involved feel.

Inside, the Corolla comes standard with an 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Seating is fabric-trimmed in the LE and SE grades, while the XSE upgrades to SofTex-trimmed, heated, and 8-way power-adjustable front seats. Available features across the lineup include a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen, a Qi wireless charger, a power tilt-and-slide moonroof, and a nine-speaker JBL® premium audio system with a subwoofer and an 800-watt amplifier.

For safety, every 2026 Corolla is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. This standard suite of driver aids includes a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Road Sign Assist. Proactive Driving Assist is also part of the system, providing gentle braking or steering support to aid in tasks like distance control.

What's New for 2026

Toyota has implemented several key updates for the 2026 model year. Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert is now a standard safety feature across all Corolla grades. The driver’s instrument panel has been upgraded; the LE and SE grades now come standard with a 7-inch digital gauge cluster. The top-tier XSE grade receives a larger, standard 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster for a more modern display. Additionally, the sporty FX Edition, which was available on the previous model year, has been discontinued for 2026.

Toyota Corolla LE Vs SE: Which Trim is Right for You?

The Toyota Corolla remains a mainstay of the automotive world.

Sure, SUVs have become the fashionable choice—and there’s now a Corolla Cross for just that—but the Toyota Corolla continues to be one of the best-selling cars in North America. It’s easy to see why: a bulletproof reputation, ease of use, and an affordable price tag are hard to ignore.

As part of a refresh for the 2023 model year, the Corolla family grew again, with a whole lot more hybrid availability. We’re sticking to the more affordable gas models for this trim-on-trim comparison, which now all share the same larger (yet more economical) 2.0-liter engine. So which is it that satisfies more, the Corolla LE or SE?

Toyota Corolla LE Vs Nissan Sentra SR Comparison

So you’ve been called back to the office.

It’s not a full five-days-a-week expectation anymore, which is good, since you moved further out of town. You need a sensible set of wheels, whether it’s to brave downtown, or even just shoot over to the nearby train station.

There are few cars more sensible than the Toyota Corolla. The perennial best-seller saw a useful round of updates for this year. The bulk of the changes focused on the empowered hybrid and it gaining AWD—to say nothing of the riotous GR Corolla. But the humble LE saw a big improvement too, gaining the more powerful and more efficient 2.0-liter engine found elsewhere in the lineup. It also saw a huge infotainment improvement, which should make those early morning commutes easier.

Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD vs Mazda3 AWD Comparison

What you are looking at are the only two AWD compact sedans on the market.

It’s true: the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and the Mazda3 sedan carry the torch, now that the Subaru Impreza has gone hatch-only for 2024. The only other choices are to move up a size or head to SUV town—and even some of those are just skipping AWD altogether.

Despite representing 100 percent of this particular niche, the Toyota and Mazda are quite different in execution. The Corolla saw an update for 2023, improving the hybrid powertrain and adding AWD for good measure. Meanwhile the 3 has been offering all-paw grip basically since this generation launched, and continues to hold a reputation as the driver’s choice in the segment. Managing editor Mike Schlee and I spent a week with these two opposing forces to see which does the job better.

2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid AWD First Drive Review: All-Weather Fuel Miser

It’s not often the new version of a car is priced lower than its predecessor.

Yet that’s just what’s happened with the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. The LE trim has seen a roughly five-percent reduction, to an entirely sensible $23,895 ($29,310 CAD), including destination.

Not the one I’m driving, though. Along with a model-wide refresh, the 2023 Corolla has gained an AWD option for its fuel-sipping Hybrid model. What Toyota has created here is an honest, utterly sensible confluence of no-frills daily transport and a dash of extra poor-weather capability. Not under the spell of the SUV, and tired of seeing the local gas station employees more than some of your family? Your chariot awaits.
