Cost of Safelite
How much you pay for Safelite will depend on whether your car insurance policy covers glass. If you have comprehensive coverage, you may be fully covered for glass repairs and replacements, minus a deductible. Safelite works with most insurance providers to cover auto glass claims.
If your service is not covered by insurance, Safelite is still a relatively affordable choice.
The price of services for your particular vehicle may be higher or lower than the standard, though, because numerous factors influence the cost of auto glass repairs and replacements. For example, a luxury vehicle such as a BMW will cost more than a Honda Fit. Factors that may affect price include:
- Make, model, and year of your vehicle
- Type of damage
- Location of damage
- Type of glass
- Sensors and wipers
- Preferred brand of service
Safelite repairs quarter-sized rock chips and cracks up to 3 inches long before recommending windshield replacement.

Safelite AutoGlass Reviews and Ratings
“Booked online and was fixed in less than [two] days. They updated my status via text message regularly and even sent a photo of the technician prior to his arrival. Guy was in and out super-fast and did a flawless job. They have also reached out to confirm that I was indeed satisfied.”– Jaime G. via Google
Most complaints revolve around long wait times on the phone and mobile technicians arriving late or canceling after the time window had already passed. Some negative Safelite windshield replacement reviews concern technicians bringing the wrong brand of windshield for the car, and some Safelite glass repair reviews complain about damages.
“I had a windshield repaired by this company, and during the process, the technician damaged our 2018 Dodge Charger. He allowed the door of my 2013 Toyota Tundra to rub against the freshly painted Charger. ... Pictures were taken and the door aligned up perfectly with the wear-down on the Charger, [but] the store manager continues to refuse to take responsibility for what his technician did. We have submitted two estimates for the repair. Both are within $50 of one another. It has been over a month, and the argument continues. ... I suggest that you go with a smaller windshield repair company that cares about how you are treated.”– Eric via BBB
Taken together, Safelite reviews are quite mixed. We recommend reading Safelite reviews in your area to get a better idea of the level of customer service and expertise you can expect.

Safelite Lifetime Warranty
Safelite glass replacements are backed by the company’s nationwide lifetime warranty. The warranty states that windshields and windows are covered against defects in material or workmanship for as long as you own the vehicle in which the glass is installed. The only requirement is that you tell Safelite about a defect within 30 days of noticing the damage.
The warranty does not cover leaks, stress cracks, or related damage in connection with installations to vehicles having damage or rust on the pinch weld. Additionally, damage not resulting from defective workmanship or materials is excluded from the warranty.
Glass Recycling
Safelite AutoGlass recycles windows and windshields in an effort to protect the environment for future generations. Since 2012, the company has recycled more than six million windshields, keeping more than 107,000 tons of material out of landfills.
Recycled windshield glass is processed by Safelite partner Shark Glass Recycling North America and used to create new fiberglass insulation and carpet backing.

The WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had with a company! DO NOT USE THEM! I have a 2016 Mazda CX-9 cross-over (many of them on the road these days), and had a rock hit the windshield. I called my insurance company who in turn called SafeLite. SafeLite called to schedule an appointment to visit their SHOP 2 WEEKS OUT -- which is in an area that is not very safe. I insisted instead on their coming to my house to do the replacement -- 3 WEEKS OUT! Installation day finally came, I took a day off of work as well. Installer arrives with THE WRONG WINDSHIELD! Apparently the replacement glass didnt match up with various sensors on the car - and he "never saw a car set up like mine before" (??!!) . He tried to blame the insurance company - said that they probably didnt use the VIN for the car. I reviewed the work order and the VIN matched the paperwork. Way to blame someone else for your mistake. They said they could reschedule for another day and bring the correct windshield. No thanks -- going to go with another glass company. Thanks for wasting my time. And VERY MISLEADING TV COMMERCIALS. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
