Mercedes-AMG Teases New V8 Powered Model

Mercedes-AMG is teasing a potential new addition to its performance portfolio with the debut of the GT Track Sport concept, a hardcore, V8-powered coupe that could soon take its place at the top of the GT lineup.
Key Points
- Mercedes-AMG revealed the GT Track Sport concept, a hardcore, V8-powered variant of the AMG GT lineup with aggressive aero and track-focused design.
- A production version is likely, as AMG has said it “previews a possible expansion” of the GT series, potentially serving as a homologation model for the next-gen GT3 race car.
- Road-legal performance is expected, with a two-seat layout, swan-neck rear wing, and Nürburgring ambitions aimed at challenging rivals like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Mercedes has officially labeled it a concept, but AMG did say the GT Track Sport "provides a preview of a possible expansion of the GT series," a promising signal that a production model is likely in the pipeline—this could even be a homologation special in anticipation of AMG's newest GT3 race car.
The GT Track Sport arrives with the promise of restoring some of the AMG GT’s sharp-edged track credibility. The current second-generation GT, introduced with a 2+2 layout, has been criticized for migrating towards grand touring comfort.
This new model should shift the balance back toward the track-focused edge AMG originally honed with the first-gen GT Black Series. Should a production run come, expect it to slot above the GT63 Pro in the range, where it could rival hardcore competitors like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and dare I say, the Mustang GTD and Corvette ZR1.
The concept wears heavy camouflage in the image set, but there’s no hiding its aggressive aero package. A massive swan-neck rear wing, oversized front splitter, and Michelin street rubber suggest the prototype GT Track Sport is intended to be road-legal. GT3 homologation rules require the race car to be based on a street-going production model.
Mercedes-AMG hinted at a Nürburgring campaign—the previous GT Black Series once held the production car record with a 6:48 lap before being dethroned by Porsche’s 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey Performance Kit. AMG later reclaimed bragging rights with the One hypercar, which lapped the Green Hell in a blistering 6:29.09, but the GT Track Sport will likely focus on outpacing Porsche’s newest GT cars rather than chasing hypercars.
Under the hood, AMG has confirmed that the GT Track Sport will feature a V8 engine, staying true to its promise of continuing to offer eight-cylinder engines even as electrification creeps through the lineup. No official output figures have been released—the GT Track Sport will almost certainly deliver more power than the existing GT63 Pro.
