Tesla is recalling over 27,000 Cybertruck units in the U.S. due to delayed rear-view camera images, the truck's fifth recall this year.

Only the Ford Mustang is in the same league as the Cybertruck for recall frequency. This latest Cybertruck recall addresses a software problem causing the rear-view camera display to lag for up to eight seconds when shifting into reverse. Tesla will release a software update to fix the issue.

This is the fifth recall issued for the 2024 Cybertruck since January, and the largest one to date. Previous recalls targeted issues with the accelerator pedal pad, windshield wipers, and exterior trim. The Cybertruck, first delivered in November 2023 after prolonged delays, is a critical product for Tesla as it looks to rejuvenate its lineup amid slowing EV demand.

The company confirmed that it has received 45 warranty claims and four field reports potentially linked to the camera issue but emphasized that there have been no crashes, injuries, or fatalities associated with the defect.

Despite these setbacks, Tesla continues to move forward with production, though it has not disclosed exact figures for Cybertruck units produced or sold to date—it's fairly safe to assume this recall includes every Cybertruck produced.
