The 5 EVs People Are Shopping For Right Now
Guess what! Unlike the past several months, Tesla earns the top spot on the most-researched EV list in May.

5. Tesla Model 3
What’s this? Two Tesla machines landing in the top five? Perhaps the preponderance of news surrounding Elon Musk, the man who leads and is most directly associated with the Tesla brand, has drug the automaker’s two most popular EVs into the center of the public’s consciousness. In case you were curious, the Model 3 was in eighth place the month prior.
4. Hyundai Ioniq 5
Hyundai’s best-selling electric vehicle fell from third in April to fourth in May. Surprisingly, the 5’s sedan-shaped sibling, the Ioniq 6, landed all the way down in 17th place last month. No matter their rank on the most-researched list, both of Hyundai’s Ioniq-badged EVs offer strong range scores, excellent driving dynamics, and realistic price points.
3. Ford F-150 Lightning
We’re not surprised to see the F-150 Lightning in third place. What we are surprised to see, however, is that Ford’s electric pickup truck generated more online interest last month than the Mustang Mach-E that has led these rankings for the past several months. We don’t mean to spoil the rest of the list, but we’ll tell you now that the Mach-E fell just out of the top five and therefore won’t be included in this list.
2. Chevrolet Equinox EV
The Chevrolet Equinox EV is another electric vehicle that made a considerable climb in last month’s rankings. Landing all the way in the second spot, up from fourth, it’s not difficult to understand why Chevy’s entry-level electric crossover is proving popular with online researchers. It offers excellent range, good looks, and a reasonable price tag.
1. Tesla Model Y
The most popular vehicle in the world charges into first place on this list of the most-researched electric vehicles of May 2025. Last month the Model Y was all the way down in fifth place, a fact we attributed at the time to the fact that most Tesla machines are purchased directly from the manufacturer. Regardless, the Tesla Model Y is a fitting EV to sit atop the list.
