Ram is about to expand its product offerings beyond pickups and vans—according to comments from Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, the truck brand is preparing to launch its first full-size SUV in 2028.

Key Points

  • Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed that Ram will launch its first full-size SUV in 2028, built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant alongside the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
  • The upcoming SUV will offer both a gasoline engine and a range-extended plug-in hybrid setup, reflecting Stellantis’ blended strategy of electrification and conventional power.
  • Ram will also debut two new SRT models, including a TRX successor and a possible street-focused performance truck, signaling the return of high-performance variants to the brand’s lineup.

The new model will be built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, where Stellantis currently produces the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Production will follow a $13 billion U.S. investment plan, which includes a nearly $100 million retooling of the Warren facility to accommodate the SUV. I'll admit, when the investment into Warren was first announced, I was convinced the new SUV would wear a Chrysler badge.

While technical details remain limited, Filosa confirmed the new SUV will be mechanically similar to the Grand Wagoneer, meaning it will ride on a body-on-frame platform capable of posting serious towing and payload numbers. It will also be offered with both traditional combustion powertrains and a range-extended electric setup—the same choices offered by the GW.

Filosa described the incoming Ram-branded SUV as part of a push to reestablish Ram in key segments, including midsize trucks and large SUVs.

The upcoming SUV could use the Ramcharger name. Stellantis was originally planning to resurrect the Ramcharger name for the brand's extended-range plug-in hybrid truck, but has since changed its mind and renamed that model the Ram 1500 REV after killing the full-size BEV project that was supposed to wear that name.

In addition to the SUV, Filosa confirmed that Ram will soon debut two new SRT performance models under the recently revived Street and Racing Technology division. The first is expected to be the successor to the 1500 TRX, while the second potential SRT model is unclear, though rumors suggest a street-oriented sport truck could follow.
