Porsche Reportedly Planning New 911 Dakar With Hybrid Power
Porsche is preparing to bring back the 911 Dakar, this time with hybrid power and improvements to both on- and off-road performance.
A new Dakar is currently in development at the company's Weissach facility and will be part of the facelifted 992-series 911 lineup. While not officially confirmed, senior sources at Porsche told Autocar a 992.2 911 Dakar is set for a late 2025 launch and will be produced in limited numbers.
The previous iteration was capped at 2,500 units, with production ending in November 2024. Expect similar production numbers from the updated version.
The incoming 911 Dakar will retain the lifted suspension and rugged exterior design, but under the skin, it's expected to introduce Porsche’s T-Hybrid powertrain, first used in the 2025 911 GTS that debuted last year. This system pairs a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six producing 478 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque with a gearbox-mounted electric motor contributing an additional 53 hp and up to 111 lb-ft. The MGU setup powers a 1.9-kWh battery.
In the 911 GTS, the combined output of the T-Hybrid system is 534 hp and 450 lb-ft. Compared to the previous 911 Dakar’s 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six, which made 473 hp and 420 lb-ft, the hybrid powertrain is expected to improve acceleration over the previous model’s 3.4-second 0-62 mph time.
Like its predecessor, the new 911 Dakar should come with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive as standard. Porsche is also working on a range of new paint options and customization features through its Sonderwunsch program.
Pricing is expected to increase over the last model, which started just shy of $225,000. Look for additional details to come later this year.
