Dacia Hipster Concept is the Fixie Bike of EVs for Your Credible Life
Playing into every minimalist, old-is-cool, stylish stereotype, the new vehicle is actually an innovative EV that we need.
The manufacturer wants to reinvent the people’s car. To reverse the constant trend of larger, heavier, and more expensive vehicles.
To start, the Hipster weighs 20% less than Dacia’s current smallest offering, the Spring, an all-electric city car. That should but the Hipster’s weight around 1,052 kg (2,319 lbs).
In fact, the brand calls it a block sitting firmly on four wheels at the four corners. To maximize space, there are no overhangs front or rear.
The flat front end has dot-matrix style headlights, a style we’ve seen in other electric vehicles.
With a front bumper that curves up at the sides, the vehicle almost seems to be smiling, with a cheerful fascia.
The rear hatch door covers the entire width of the concept, and opens in two parts, like a Range Rover.
While discussing the rear door, the taillights are actually positioned behind the glass on the hatch, so they are visible with the door up or down.
Keeping on the minimalist approach, the door handles are gone, ditched, removed, expelled. In their place are simple straps that are lighter and more cost effective. It’s just like a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, right?
The Hipster Concept is only a two-door, so rear passengers will have to squeeze through the front door to get in the back.
The door is wide though, in relation to the vehicles size and the brand claims four adults can sit comfortably in Dacia Hipster Concept.
The front seats are once again masters of the minimalist mentality, consisting of a visible frame wrapped in a mesh fabric.
Rather than have a traditional center console, the narrow EV has the two front seats grafted together to form a pseudo bench – a nod the manufacturer states to affordable city cars of old.
The cargo area can hold 70 litres (2.5 cu ft) of gear with the rear seats up, or 500 litres (17.7 cu ft) with them folded.
If customers do want more features and options inside, they can utilize Dacia’s YouClip accessories.
There are 11 YouClip anchor points throughout the cabin, mainly on the dashboard, door panels, and cargo area.
A variety of accessories can be snapped on, including cup holders, armrests, ceiling lights, and more.
Speaking of accessories, a driver’s smartphone is essential to operating the Hipster Concept, due to Dacia's BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) philosophy.Â
Once placed in the docking station, the smartphone becomes the vehicle’s infotainment screen to display things like navigation apps. The smartphone also becomes the digital key for the vehicle.
There are no speakers or traditional audio system in the Hipster Concept either. To get the tunes pumping, once again a smartphone is utilised, becoming a media player that can be connected to a portable YouClip Bluetooth speaker.
Although no information was provided on the mechanics of the Hipster Concept, we would wager it will utilize much of the hardware found in the Spring.
With Dacia not selling in the North America market, we obviously will not see the Hipster Concept if it goes into production. But, some of these technologies may find their way into other products down the road.Â
