Are we witnessing the beginning of a wagon renaissance in America? Mercedes-AMG is bringing a new high-performance wagon to the U.S. later this year in the form of the 2026 E53 Wagon.

Key Points

  • The high-performance plug-in hybrid wagon arrives later this year, joining the E450 All-Terrain in Mercedes’ lineup.
  • A turbocharged inline-six and electric motor deliver 577 hp as standard, with an optional upgrade to 604 hp via the AMG Dynamic Plus package.
  • Standard features include adaptive suspension and rear-axle steering, with available upgrades like the Edition 1 package, Nappa leather, forged wheels, and MBUX Superscreen.

The 2026 E53 joins the E450 All-Terrain in the brand’s American wagon stable.

The E53 Wagon’s powertrain pairs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with an electric motor integrated within the nine-speed automatic transmission. A 28.6-kWh battery provides juice to the electric motor. When combined, the powertrain produces 577 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Equipped with standard rear-axle steering and AMG’s adaptive Ride Control suspension, the wagon can accelerate from 0–60 mph in a claimed 4.0 seconds before topping out at an electronically limited vmax of 155 mph.

Buyers can also opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which ups the jam to 604 hp and drops the 0–60 time to 3.8 seconds. The pack includes a Race Start launch mode, active engine mounts, a limited-slip rear differential, and it raises the car's top speed by 20 mph. A composite system with hot red calipers handles braking.

On the outside, the E53 Wagon will ride on 20-inch wheels as standard, with 21-inch wheels available as an upgrade. AMG Night and Carbon Fiber packages will be offered, as well as an Edition 1 model finished in Alpine Grey with unique graphics and forged wheels.

Inside, the wagon includes MB-Tex and microfiber upholstery by default, with options for Nappa leather and AMG Performance seats. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.4-inch infotainment screen are included, while a 12.3-inch front passenger display is available with the MBUX Superscreen option. A 17-speaker Burmester 4D audio system comes standard.

While official pricing has yet to be announced, the E53 Wagon is expected to land above the E53 Sedan, which currently starts at $88,000 before destination fees. That would still undercut other performance wagons like the Audi RS6 Avant and BMW M5 Touring by a wide margin—albeit with less performance envelope than

Mercedes-AMG hasn’t confirmed the exact on-sale date, but the E53 Wagon is expected to arrive at U.S. dealers later in 2025—and more wagons are only a good thing.

Remove the turbo and gigantic video screen and you might have something there.

Bring back the jumper seats in the back, add a manual option, and remove 95% of the screens and tech, and I'm in!
