With the introduction of the sixth-generation RAV4, Toyota is set to offer its first performance SUV, the 2026 RAV4 GR Sport. It's a brave new world for the RAV4 and marks the North American debut of Toyota's GR Sport designation.
We've had GR models like the GR86, GR Corolla, and GR Supra for years now in North America, but Toyota's GR Sport designation is typically reserved for models with sporty aesthetic changes and subtle performance tuning rather than comprehensive performance modifications—The RAV4 GR Sport seems to have both.
The RAV4 GR Sport will utilize the new RAV4's most powerful powertrain, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, delivering a combined output of 320 horsepower to all four wheels. While the RAV4 GR Sport doesn't offer a power bump over its plug-in hybrid RAV4 siblings, it distinguishes itself through a series of chassis and suspension enhancements.
Gazoo Racing tuned the suspension and power steering systems. Toyota also said the RAV4 GR Sport features "enhanced body rigidity," though specific details on the extent and locations of these reinforcements are not known. Further upping its athleticism, the GR Sport comes equipped with summer tires as standard which are mounted on unique 20-inch wheels with an increased offset.
In terms of exterior styling, the GR Sport differentiates itself from other RAV4 trims with an aggressive rear wing and a subtle chin spoiler. Piano black trim accents mimic the revised front bumper design of the GR Corolla. GR badges are glued to the front grille and tailgate.
Pricing for the RAV4 GR Sport is expected to be released closer to its launch later this year.

If I replaced my current RAV4 , I would choose the simple hybrid. I am not a fan of cords.
Making this a plug in model was a mistake.
