The Jeep Renegade Will Go Electric In 2027
Speaking to investors, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa said that the Jeep Renegade will return in 2027 as an EV. There’s been much talk of Jeep’s $25,000 EV of late, and it appears the Renegade, which was killed off in 2023, will now fill that role. Filosa doesn’t rule out alternative powertrains either, and given the model’s combustion roots, it’s possible two versions (or even a hybrid) could come along in 2027.
There are some hurdles to hit that $25K price point Jeep has harped on so much. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, also speaking at the event, said that Jeep must have lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries to reach that magic figure (it isn’t clear if this includes any tax incentives or not). These batteries are cheaper to produce, but neither Jeep nor Stellantis can produce them Stateside. This presents another problem: the LFP cells have to be made Stateside for the upcoming Renegade to be eligible for the most beneficial tax credits in the US. How all this shakes out will no doubt be a deciding factor in Jeep’s pricing for the small SUV.
