Ford ended 2024 by announcing a slew of recalls impacting nearly 400,000 vehicles.

The recalls, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), include issues with fuel pumps, battery systems, power windows, and rear-view cameras.

Ford Super Duty: High-Pressure Fuel Pump Defect

The largest recall of the grouping involves 295,449 diesel-powered trucks, including 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, along with 2021-2022 Ford F-650 and F-750 chassis cab trucks.

The issue stems from biodiesel deposits forming on components of the high-pressure fuel pump, which could lead to pump failure and engine power loss. Symptoms include extended cranking during startup, a Check Engine Light (CEL), unusual noises, and reduced engine performance.

Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge, the software update is expected to increase cooling to the high-pressure fuel pump in order to reduce deposits.

Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair: Battery Issues

Over 20,000 Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair models have been recalled for a defect in the high-voltage battery cells that could lead to internal short circuits and battery failure.

According to NHTSA documents, the high-voltage cell’s separator layer between its cathode and anode may be susceptible to damage due to the cell manufacturing process. Separator damage may result in a cell internal short circuit. Dealers will update battery energy control module software and replace battery packs if needed.

Lincoln Nautilus: Faulty Power Windows

Nearly 50,000 Lincoln Nautilus SUVs have power windows that may fail to reverse properly after detecting obstructions, increasing the risk of injury. Ford says the component modules shipped from the supplier in China do not include the appropriate North American parameters. Dealers will update the module programming free of charge under the recall campaign.

Ford Flex, Ford Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT: Rear-View Camera Failures

Over 30,000 Ford Flex, Fiesta, and Lincoln MKT models from model year 2019 are recalled for rear-view cameras intermittently displaying blank or inverted images, reducing driver visibility. According to the recall documents, Ford still does not fully understand the root cause. Teardown analysis of returned camera samples has shown solder joint fractures between the microcontroller and PCB.

The company has not announced a fix at this time, but will notify owners as soon as one is available.

In November, the automaker faced a $165 million fine from NHTSA for delays in addressing a 2020 recall affecting over 700,000 vehicles with rear-view camera issues. Additionally, NHTSA is investigating Ford’s handling of other recalls, including issues with 2019-2020 Expeditions and 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and Maverick models.

Ford ended 2024 as one of the most recalled automakers, losing only to quality-plagued Fiat Chrysler.

Ford has no QAQC, No idea how to build a quality vehicle, no intention of building an affordable vehicle, their entire focus is making money to satisfy their shareholders.

    I'll never buy Ford again.

After pronouncing the EV Lightning a failure, Ford's CEO announced they will shift focus to build SDVs (Software Defined Vehicles). You won't buy a car, you'll buy a software package on 4 wheels...AGAIN! NO THANKS!
