Chevrolet has officially begun teasing the return of the Bolt, confirming the nameplate will be revived for 2027.

Key Points

  • Teaser images shared by Chevy confirm the nameplate’s comeback, promising the next-generation Bolt will be “back and better than ever.”
  • The teasers confirm the upcoming Bolt will feature a Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector, aligning with industry-wide EV charging compatibility.
  • Built as an evolution of the Bolt EUV, the 2027 model will use cost-effective lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs to keep pricing accessible while maintaining its role as Chevy’s most affordable EV.

The automaker dropped several preview images, promising that the next-generation Bolt will be "back and better than ever." I certainly hope they didn't make it worse.

The teaser images don’t reveal much, but they do confirm several design cues. A thin strip of "grille" trim running along the hood line and sleek LED headlights suggest the new Bolt will follow a similar design language as the Chevy’s Blazer EV.

Another image focuses on the charging port, confirming the use of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector. A move consistent with GM's other electric vehicles in adopting Tesla’s plug as the industry standard.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra has previously said the next-gen Bolt won’t be a complete redesign. Instead, it will evolve from the outgoing Bolt EUV platform but would adopt lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology. This chemistry should help Chevy keep production costs and the vehicle’s base price down, ensuring the Bolt retains its title as the brand’s most affordable EV.

Range figures for the 2027 Bolt remain unreleased, but the game has changed significantly since the previous generation debuted in 2016. The 2023 Bolt EV offered an EPA-rated 259 miles of range, while the slightly larger Bolt EUV managed 247 miles. Whether the new LFP battery can match or exceed those figures remains a question for later.

Chevrolet plans to release more information on the 2027 Bolt this fall.

Chevrolet's most affordable EV is still a Chevy, still not affordable and there's no EV tax credits. Who asked for this? Everyone I know wants an affordable, reliable, simple ICE.
