Chevrolet is dealing with angry buyers of the 2025 Corvette ZR1 after failing to make the highly anticipated ZTK Carbon Fiber Aero Package available during the model's first order cycle.

Key Points

  • A shortage of the highly sought-after high wing is affecting early 2025 ZR1 orders
  • Production setbacks affect customer deliveries, with some orders downgraded from production-ready status and placed on manual hold.
  • Chevrolet will be pausing C8 Corvette production for a total of four weeks between now and May

According to a report from CorvetteBlogger, Chevrolet's marketing team is holding meetings to address the shortage and the ensuing customer dissatisfaction. It appears early ZR1 orders are being affected as the company works to improve the availability of the iconic high-wing. It's unclear what has caused the shortage.

"There is a lot of enthusiasm for the high wing, so we are working to make sure we can satisfy customers when we start production." GM officials told AutoGuide. "We’re still tracking toward our previously communicated Q2 launch."

Further complicating matters a glitch in GM's ordering system caused event status changes for some customers who ordered their ZR1 without the high wing. These orders were assigned Target Production Weeks before being downgraded from production-ready status back to accepted status or placed under manual holds.

Meanwhile, the Corvette's Bowling Green assembly plant is slated for multiple production pauses between now and May 2025. Production will shut down for a total of four separate weeks—these interruptions are being attributed to "project improvements" and "manufacturing updates," though Chevrolet hasn't disclosed further details.

The timing of these pauses has sparked speculation about potential updates for the 2026 Corvette. AutoGuide's sources indicate the C8's interior refresh is definitely happening for the 2026 model year, but it's unconfirmed if this production shutdown is related to that.

Discussions on enthusiast forums have hinted at the possibility of a new Corvette Grand Sport model—but that's absolutely speculative.

Of course, these factory pauses could simply be related to managing inventory levels or optimizing the manufacturing process. Regardless, it's a tough look for team Corvette given recent changes to the leadership team.

Last summer, longtime Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Jeuchter retired. More recently, Chevrolet parted ways with Harlan Charles, the Corvette product manager and a company veteran of 37 years along with Corvette Exterior Design Manager Kirk Bennion.
