Ask A Chevrolet Chevelle Expert Anything

Chevelle enthusiasts have a chance to connect directly with an expert right now, as Hagerty Insurance’s in-house Chevelle specialist, John Marecki, hosts an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Wednesday, September 3, on Chevelles.com—one of AutoGuide's numerous enthusiast forums.
Marecki brings a wealth of first-hand knowledge to the table, having owned a 1969 Chevelle Malibu and a 1967 Chevelle SS 396. His passion runs deeper than simple ownership—he’s dedicated years to researching and decoding the complex history of Chevrolet’s legend. From Malibu sedans to COPO drag-strip specials, Marecki has studied it all.
Launched in 1964 as Chevrolet’s answer to the growing midsize segment, it offered everything from bare-bones sedans to fire-breathing big-block coupes. The SS started as a trim option before becoming its own model, only to become an option package again in 1969. Marecki will be covering this history and answering questions on everything from build sheets and VIN decoding to factory quirks and rare production options.
Fans can also expect some insider trivia—like how 1972 models were reshaped by a GM labor strike, or why the rarer Chevelle isn’t always the one you think it is. And while insurance isn’t the day’s focus, Marecki will be ready to offer advice for collectors curious about protecting their classic.
Whether you’re shopping for your first Chevelle, restoring a survivor, or just want to talk history, Marecki will be online all day September 3, answering questions big and small. Want to know if your SS is real, or what color codes were exclusive to 1969? This is your chance.
