Rumors and reports suggest the return of the Dodge Charger V8 is all but inevitable. It makes perfect sense as the previous Charger enjoyed two generations and nearly 20 years of existence thanks to the plethora of V8 options over the years. 2006 Dodge Charger R/T
When the Charger was reborn for the 2005 model year, the iconic R/T trim returned with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. It made 340 hp which was more than enough to roast the rear tires when wanted.
2006 Dodge Daytona R/T
Further playing on the car's history, the Charger Daytona R/T returned during the first model year as well. Although it lacked the nose cone and wing of the 1969 car that inspired it, the 2006 Daytona included an extra 10 hp, for 350 hp total, and Daytona graphics.
2006 Dodge Charger SRT-8
For those that wanted the ultimate performance Charger in 2006, there was the SRT-8. Packing a 6.1-liter HEMI V8, it cranked out 425 hp which was a lot for the time. It was a true muscle car reincarnate.
2007 Dodge Charger R/T AWD
Deviating from the usual muscle sedan script, starting with the 2007 model, the Dodge Charger R/T could be had with all-wheel drive. For those in climates that experience winter's full furry, having a 340 hp V8 and AWD was the best of both worlds.
2012 Dodge Charger SRT-8
The 2011 model year Dodge Charger under went a significant update, with new styling, updated technology. and improved powertrains. A year later, the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT-8 returned, now with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 making 470 hp.
2015 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack
By 2015, the SRT-8 gave way to the Dodge Charger SRT 392, which now had a 485 hp version of the 6.4-liter V8. One of favorite trims returned around this time as well, the R/T Scat Pack. At the heart of the package was the inclusion of the pricier SRT 392's engine in the more affordable R/T.
2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat
For the 2015 model year, Dodge went plum crazy. The brand decided the big four door Charger need more power; actually a lot more power. Under the hood of the new Charger SRT Hellcat sat a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 that pumped out 707 hp.
2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody
That massively powerful Hellcat HEMI was a bit much for the Charger's wheels and tires to reign in, so Dodge decided a good solution was to give the car a widebody that would allow wider tires to be installed. The fact it also looked more badass was a happy side effect.
2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye
You may have noticed a theme with the Charger's evolution. More Power is always the answer. To keep this trend going, Dodge launched two models that increased the Charger SRT Hellcat Widesbody's power levels. The Jailbreak pushed power to 717 hp, while the Redeye really turned up the wick with a total of 797 hp.
2023 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody Jailbreak
As a last hurrah for this generation Charger, Dodge decided to combine the SRT Hellcat's Redeye and Jailbreak packages. The result was a 807 hp beast that looked as sinister as it was to rear tires.
