The Teg Team Is Here: Integra Type S HRC Prototype Debuts

Acura just rolled out something called the Integra Type S HRC Prototype at Monterey Car Week.


If that name sounds like a mouthful, that’s because it is. But buried in all those words is the idea that Honda Racing Corporation, the same people who build the company’s race cars, might start making parts for your daily driver. The prototype is a mix of ideas from the race track, like the Integra Type S TCX racecar, and the everyday world where most of us live.


The design department clearly had some fun with this one. The car is finished in Indy Yellow Pearl, which you might remember from the second-generation NSX. It’s covered in custom HRC badges and all the usual carbon fiber pieces—hood, rear door panels, and even the rear seat, which is now a carbon shelf for your track-day gear. The front end is more aggressive, with bigger splitters and cooling ducts. The rear wing is adjustable, in case you feel like fiddling with it.

Under the hood, things get a bit more serious. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine gets a larger intercooler, twin oil coolers, and a cat-back exhaust system. The suspension is lowered, the coilovers are tuned, and the wheels are wider. They’re wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, which are basically street-legal slicks. Stopping all this is a set of massive 15-inch rotors with Brembo calipers.


The prototype will make its first public appearance at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering. Whether any of this makes it to your local dealership is anyone’s guess, but if nothing else, it’s a sign that Acura’s still paying attention.
