These Are 2025's Most Reliable Automakers

The results are in. According to J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which reports on problems reported by owners of vehicles that are three years old, Lexus makes the most trouble-free cars in America.


Lexus’ score of 140 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) is 62 points better than average.

Those are all of the brands that scored higher than the average score of 202 PP100 in the VDS study. The most common complaints reported to J.D. Power were related to vehicle software, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity issues provoking owners the most. J.D. Power says 36% of owners reported that they had received over-the-air updates from automakers, but only 30% of those who received them reported any noticeable improvements.

J.D. Power included the responses from 34,175 original owners of vehicles from the 2022 model year. This is the 36th year that J.D. Power surveyed owners. The VDS covers 184 problem areas across nine major vehicle categories: climate; driving assistance; driving experience; exterior; features/controls/displays; infotainment; interior; powertrain; and seats.
