Soneil Spark has introduced a new line of residential and commercial Level 2 AC chargers designed to give users more control over their EV charging. The chargers work with all EVs and plug-in hybrids and are UL-2594 certified. They’re built as wall-mounted units with several power levels, 24/7 Wi-Fi monitoring, and software tools that use AI to help manage charging.

The residential lineup includes five models. Three are designed for home use: the Spark AC 40A NEMA plug-in model and the hardwired Spark AC 48A and 80A models for faster charging. For multi-unit buildings and other commercial properties, the Spark AC Commercial 48A and 80A models offer options that are meant to be reliable, affordable, and straightforward to manage.

All chargers are built in Canada by Soneil Spark’s in-house team, which handles engineering, testing, and assembly. The units carry UL-2594 certification and an IP66 rating, meaning they’re suited for both indoor and outdoor use. Residential chargers include a five-year warranty, while commercial chargers come with a two-year warranty.

Instead of built-in touchscreens, Soneil Spark uses its Spark Mobile App to control all AC chargers. The chargers themselves rely on LED indicators and a compact housing that measures 7.0 x 7.0 x 3.6 inches. Despite the size, they’re built for regular residential or commercial use.

The Spark Mobile App provides tools for planning, scheduling, and monitoring charging. Users can locate charging stations on the road, set charging schedules, track energy consumption and cost, adjust settings based on local utility rates, and review charging history. Other app features include:

  1. Time-of-Use optimization, which lets users schedule charging during off-peak hours
  2. Energy monitoring for tracking electricity use and cost
  3. Over-the-air software updates
  4. Flexible configuration options for residential and commercial needs

Commercial customers can use the chargers with systems that support the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), which allows integration with existing charging networks, fleet platforms, and energy-management systems. Additional commercial features include remote diagnostics, centralized monitoring and reporting, support resources, scalability for adding more units, and multiple payment methods.

We at AutoGuide will be extensively testing the new Spark AC 40A over the coming weeks and will have a full report shortly into the new year.
