Polestar Concept BST Teases More Future High-Performance EVs

The Concept BST takes the Polestar 6 "turned up to 11". We're not great with math but that sounds like a winning formula.

Polestar is back at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with no fewer than five vehicles this year. Debuting just ahead of the doors opening at Lord March's annual celebration of all things automotive, the Concept BST takes an upcoming car—in this case the Polestar 6 electric roadster—and ratchets up the performance.

There's a lot more aggression now, too. The pretty shape of the 6 has gained a dramatic front splitter, along with a vented hood which Polestar calls "aerodynamically optimised." Unique Pirelli rubber wraps around thin-spoked, 22-inch forged alloy wheels. Out back, a high-mount rear wing rises nearly as high as the car's roof. While Polestar made no mention of it, we see a slight change to the door shut line on the Concept BST versus the 6 Concept.

While no performance figures are mentioned, even the standard 6 boasts impressive stats. In its highest-performing dual-motor setup, the roadster is targeting 872 horsepower and a 0–60 mph (0–96 km/h) dash in just 3.1 seconds. Range is estimated at 370 miles (595 kilometers) on the WLTP cycle, while 800-volt architecture allows for quicker charging. The 6 uses the same bonded aluminum Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA) platform as the upcoming 5 sedan, though obviously chopped down for a tidier footprint. What won't be chopped down is the price: expect the Polestar 6 to come in at around $200,000 in America.

And what's with the name, anyway? It's not an acronym for "Big Sporty Things" or "Bonkers Speed, Thanks." It's short-hand for "beast," which is what Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath called a punched-up Polestar 2 built for the Goodwood hill climb a few years ago. The name stuck, and a performance badge was born. "This car is a demonstration of how far we can push our performance brand—Polestar turned up to 11 if you will," says Ingenlath, "and a demonstration of how we could apply the BST formula to our lineup in the future.”

In addition to its headlining Concept BST, Polestar will also be showcasing the 2, 3, 4, and 6 throughout the Festival of Speed. All bar the 6 will be present at the dedicated Polestar stand; that model will reside at the First Glance Paddock, and also run up the iconic hillclimb. Meanwhile, Goodwood's Electric Avenue will play host to an additional Polestar 4, the rear-window-less coupe-over.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from today through July 14. AutoGuide will be on site throughout the day to capture all the goodness, so stay tuned.
