Ford, Stellantis Top List Of Most-Recalled Automakers

Ford and Stellantis (listed by NHTSA as Chrysler) top the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) list of automakers with the most recalls.

BMW was next down the line, as we’re excluding Forest River, which is a manufacturer of RVs you apparently should not buy given their numerous recalls. Stellantis topped out the list with 18% of the recalls issued by the top 12 most-recalled automakers in 2024.

That translates to 72 recalls issued across Stellantis’ portfolio of brands, which includes Ram, Jeep, Chrysler, and more. Meanwhile, Ford had 62 recalls this year, or 15%. The two are notable outliers, as BMW was the next most recalled, with 36 recalls issued in 2024. You can check out the full list in the images below.

NHTSA

Ford had some notable recalls this year, with some affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles made in 2024 and earlier. Ford will be fined up to $165 million in penalties after NHTSA found Ford’s recall of faulty rearview cameras came too slowly.

NHTSA also stated Ford failed to provide accurate information about the recall and placed the automaker under oversight for three years. Stellantis, meanwhile, saw its fair share of recalls encompassing hundreds of thousands of vehicles, like this recall over fire risk in 200,000 4xe hybrids. Ford has pledged to improve on recalls and build quality, and it remains to be seen if consumers will benefit from this renewed focus on quality in 2025.
