Next Nissan Z Sports Car Currently Being Worked On

Earlier this year, Nissan told AutoGuide in an interview that it wasn’t abandoning the ‘Z’ nameplate and that a next-generation Z sports car was something they were “studying and working through.”
Now Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s vice president of design, has confirmed the automaker is currently working on the next-generation Z in a recent interview with Australia’s WhatCar.
“The Z-car, oh my god. Huge pressure,” Albaisa said. “You can imagine I’m completely excited that I am in the position to work on that.”
You’re probably already worried Nissan is going to ruin the beloved Z in moving to the next-generation car, making it too heavy, too powerful or too expensive, but Albaisa seems to understand that the Z isn’t about any of that. He praised the 240Z as being “unforgettable” and said the 1989 300ZX was an impressive “Japanese simplicity.” The nameplate’s in good hands, then. And don’t forget that Albaisa has been responsible for a number of rather attractive Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the Infiniti Q60 and Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept.

For now, we know almost nothing about the next-generation Nissan Z. We’re just hoping that it retains the 350Z and 370Z’s raw character, finely tuned suspension and affordable pricetag. Oh, and a manual transmission would sure be nice too, Nissan.
