After subtly revealing its upcoming flagship sedan, Cadillac is spilling new details about the CT6.

During the Oscars, the American automaker showed off its CT6 in a new commercial. and its president, Johan de Nysschen, hosted a Q&A online where he answered some questions about the brand and the flagship sedan. The former head of Infiniti said that a twin-turbo V8 will eventually find its way under the hood of the CT6 saying, “CT6 is a car that really sets the standard in many respects with regard to advanced new body construction technology. It’s a Cadillac, so it stands to reason that it’s great to drive, very refined and sophisticated. The lightweight body construction allows us to push the envelope when it comes to powertrain in a way we know that the rest of the industry will follow. This includes a very wide mix of engines, starting with a 2.0-liter turbo, up to, eventually, a high-performance advanced V8 turbo.”

In a response to another question, de Nysschen specifically said that Cadillac is carefully planning the lifecycle for the model and promised that high-power derivatives is part of that plan. “The lightweight body structure allows us to achieve formidable performance even with a twin-turbo V-6,” he said. “Imagine how this car would perform with a twin-turbo V-8. Have patience, grasshopper.”

"Eventually"? That's disturbingly open-ended and non-committal. Remember, Mikhail Gorbachev eventually made economic reforms and ultimately lost his job.
