GM Announces Six New Recalls Affecting 717K Vehicles
The recalls from General Motors continue to roll in.
A total of six recalls have been announced by the American automaker today, affecting 717,950 vehicles in the U.S.
The first recall affects the 2011-2012 Chevrolet Camaro, 2010-2012 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, 2011-2012 Buick Regal and LaCrosse and 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX vehicles equipped with power height adjustable driver or front passenger seat structures. According to GM, the bolt that secures the height adjuster actuator may become loose or even fall out. If the bolt does fall out, the seat adjuster will move freely up and down. The automaker is aware of one crash and three vehicle injuries related to the issue, but no fatalities and affects a total of 414,333 vehicles.

The third recall is for the 2011-2013 Buick Regal and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu equipped with front turn signals that use two bulbs in each front turn signal. While the driver would get a rapidly flashing turn signal arrow in the instrument cluster if both bulbs in one turn signal burned out, the signal doesn’t activate if only one bulb is out. A total of 120,426 vehicles are impacted by the recall and dealers will reprogram the body control module to fix the condition. The automaker isn’t aware of any crashes, injuries or complaints related to the issue.
The fourth recall affects 57,242 2014 Chevrolet Impalas equipped with belt-drive electric power steering. On certain vehicles, customers may experience reduced or no power steering assist at start-up due to a poor electrical ground connection to the Power Steering Control Module. Though a warning message will display on the vehicle’s Driver Information Center if power steering is lost, it would require greater driver effort to steer the vehicle in manual steering mode. The recall is caused by paint that could have seeped behind the nut on the power steering control module ground stud. Dealerships will inspect and clean paint from behind the ground nut, re-torque the nut and update the power steering control module software. The company is aware of one crash, but no injuries or fatalities related to the recall.
Next, a total of 1,919 Chevrolet Sparks from the 2014-2015 model year imported from Korea were assembled with a lower control arm bolt not fastened to specification. As a result, a noise from the front suspension and separation of the lower control arm from the steering knuckle while driving can result in a loss of steering control. To fix this recall, dealerships will inspect the left and right hand lower control arm attaching bolts to assure they’re tightened to specification. No crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition have been reported.
The last recall affects 22 2015 model year Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the roof carriers may have been attached with the wrong retaining nuts, resulting in holes or tears in the roof rail air bags if they deploy. According to GM, eight of the recalled vehicles are still in dealer stock and will be repaired prior to being sold.
“These recalls signify how we’ve enhanced our approach to safety,” said Jeff Boyer, vice president, Global Vehicle Safety. “We are bringing greater rigor and discipline to our analysis and decision making. If we identify an issue – large or small – that might affect the safety of our customers, we will act decisively.”
With these six new recalls included, GM has now issued 60 recalls in 2014 for a total of 27.7 million vehicles worldwide.
