Volvo’s compact sedan is one of the brand’s longest running nameplates. Two versions of the car are available that go from mild to wild. The entry level model matches the field of compact luxury cars head-on like the BMW 330i, Audi A4, Lexus IS 300, and Cadillac CT4.
But the higher end model is a bit of an anomaly. Although it’s not a pure performance model like the CT4-V Blackwing, BMW M4, or Mercedes-Benz C 63, it features the same amount of power and a boat load of torque thanks to a supercharger, turbocharger, and plug-in hybrid set-up.

2023 Volvo S60 T8 Recharge Review
Quick: how many new sedans are out there boasting over 450 horsepower and a sticker under $60,000?
The answer is two, and one of them is this, the 2023 Volvo S60 T8 Recharge. The other is the Dodge Charger Scat Pack, which retires in a matter of months. An unlikely pair, that.
In a number of ways, this plug-in Volvo four-door is the thinking man’s muscle car. The S60 is quick, it’s four-adults comfortable, and the sticker is surprisingly reasonable. A week with this premium sedan revealed its slow-burn appeal, appeal that goes far beyond its on-paper niche status.

2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 vs 2022 Volvo S60 Comparison
We use “premium” and “luxury” interchangeably these days. But the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 and 2022 Volvo S60 show just how different these two terms can be.
Mercedes has redone its smallest rear-drive model for this year. As has long been the case, the new C-Class brings more than a hint of the S-Class, the de facto luxury car poster child, to the compact sedan segment. It’s smooth, it coddles its passengers, and it has a reputation for quality.
So does the Volvo S60. In fact, we’d call Volvo’s smallest sedan one of the industry’s underdogs. Criminally overlooked, this handsome four-door has a lot to offer, if not the badge kudos that come with a brand new Merc.
Is there clear air between the premium Volvo and the luxury Benz? How much more car can you get if you’re willing to look beyond the Germans? Managing editor Mike Schlee and I spent a week finding out.
Volvo S60 vs Audi A4: Which Compact Luxury Sedan Should You Buy?
The compact luxury sedan segment is packed full of great vehicles that combine enjoyable driving dynamics, premium interior technology, and reasonably low pricing.
Every luxury automaker doing business in North America, with the longtime leaders being the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the Audi A4. In more recent years, models like the Lexus IS, the Infiniti Q50, and the Volvo S60 have entered the fray, leading to heavier competition and accelerated improvements in the segment.
The A4 has long served as the first choice for anyone who wants an all-season, all-wheel-drive compact luxury sedan, but the Volvo S60 offers all-wheel-drive with loads of technology, making it a great option for a shopper who likes the idea of driving one of the newer entries to the segment.
