Find everything you need to know about the Lexus LX here, along with expert reviews, specs, photos, videos and more.

The large Lexus LX is one of the few body-on-frame luxury SUVs left on the market. Based on the Toyota Land Cruiser, the LX is a bit of a jack of all trades. Hauling passengers, gear, or trailers, this big Lexus also features impressive off-road capabilities.

Power now comes from a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 that makes in excess of 400 hp. Unlike a lot of its competitors, the LX only comes with four-wheel drive.

Lexus LX Overview

The Lexus LX continues to serve as the brand’s flagship SUV, combining off-road capability with refined luxury. Offered in five grades — Premium, F SPORT Handling, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and the new Overtrail — the LX lineup covers a broad range of use cases and driving preferences. Available in both two- and three-row configurations, the LX continues to offer seating versatility, along with a maximum towing capacity of 8,000 pounds.

Two powertrains are offered: the LX 600 retains its 409-hp 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, while the new LX 700h introduces a hybrid version of the same engine, paired with a nickel-metal hydride battery. The hybrid system generates 457 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque, with an estimated combined fuel economy of 20 mpg. Both models use a 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission.

The LX rides on the GA-F platform, which enhances body rigidity and driving dynamics while supporting the new hybrid drivetrain. Lexus has tuned the suspension for better articulation and smoother ride quality, even during off-road use. Standard features include Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, Adaptive Variable Suspension, and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0.

What’s New for 2025

For 2025, Lexus introduces the LX 700h, marking the first time a hybrid powertrain is offered in the LX series. The LX 700h also debuts the new Overtrail grade, a more rugged trim developed under Lexus’ Overtrail Project. This variant includes 33-inch all-terrain tires, locking differentials, an appearance package, and water protection for the hybrid battery, supporting a 27.5-inch fording depth.

Additionally, all LX models now come standard with Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 and a Head-Up Display. Other updates include improved seat massage functions, wireless smartphone compatibility, and new standard features across all trims. Pricing for the 2025 LX starts at $106,850, including destination fees.

2022 Lexus LX600 First Drive Review: Comfortably Niche

My first impression of the 2022 Lexus LX600 happens at 7,200 feet, and roughly 7,200 miles from where it feels built for.

That’s not to say the latest Lexus flagship is totally out of place. We’re in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which throws stunning snow-capped vistas at me quicker than Hollywood can mine our nostalgia. A wholly acceptable spot within North America to launch a new luxury SUV, Santa Fe is. I’m pretty sure the Lexus team practically sold a ski-tripping family on a new one just by having the fleet parked in front of the hotel.

After over a dozen years, the Japanese luxury brand’s SUV flagship has received a much-needed generational change. As you’d expect after so long, that’s made for dramatic improvements across the board, from refinement, technology, capability, and yes, even fuel economy. The result is a big-time rig that wouldn’t look out of place launching over dunes outside Tabuk. That genuine off-road capability marks it out amongst the large luxury SUV crowd—only now it comes with better road manners.
