The Buick Encore GX is now the brand’s entry level SUV with the demise of the smaller Encore. Wearing new looks inside and out, the Encore GX continues to use the same mechanics as before.

The small turbocharged three-cylinder engines provide good power around town, but begins to run out of steam at highway speeds. The vehicle feels premium inside and the ride quality is better than expected for a small SUV.

Smooth Ride, Surprising Interior Space, Brake Feel

Cons

Fuel Economy, Highway Acceleration, High Load Floor

Bottom Line

The Buick Encore GX ST is worth a look, as it has enough to set it apart from more mainstream subcompact SUVs

Buick Encore GX Overview

From 2024 onward the Buick Encore GX takes the spotlight as Buick retires the standard Encore and shifts focus entirely to the GX. This subcompact SUV receives notable upgrades, including refreshed styling and added premium features, aligning with Buick’s evolving design language. Key updates include a redesigned front fascia, a new logo placement, and standard LED lighting on upper trims.

The Encore GX is available in three trims: Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir, with prices starting at $28,190 USD. It offers two turbocharged three-cylinder engine options, including a 1.3-liter engine producing 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission in all-wheel-drive models. Fuel efficiency is rated at 26 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

The interior balances practicality with premium touches. Features like wireless Apple CarPlay, an 11-inch infotainment screen, and optional packages add convenience and style. However, cargo space is limited to 23.5 cubic feet behind the seats, expanding to 50.2 cubic feet when folded.

Driving impressions highlight a comfortable, quiet ride and adequate handling, though highway acceleration feels modest. The Encore GX offers a premium alternative in the subcompact SUV market, blending upscale touches with an accessible price point, making it a strong choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking a refined driving experience.
