Mercedes Caught Testing Wild New V8-Powered AMG CLE
Mercedes-AMG has taken a CLE-based V8 coupe to a private Nürburgring session, giving the extreme prototype the Nordschleife to itself as development appears to move toward a reveal.
YouTuber Carspotter Jeroen filmed the camouflaged car during the test, with Mercedes running the prototype alone.
The car is described as the next entry in Mercedes’ ultra-exclusive Mythos series, following the SL-based PureSpeed launched a couple of years ago. However, this model is tied to the CLE rather than the SL, and is expected to use V8 power at a time when the V8-powered AMG C63 is still missing in action.
The prototype was seen with stacked exhaust outlets, a large rear wing, and a prominent hood scoop intended to help cool the expected flat-plane-crank V8. Dealers have claimed the car will make well over 600 horsepower—the engine is rumored to produce 650 hp.
However, Mercedes has not confirmed output, production volume, pricing, or the Mythos name for this CLE-based coupe. Dealers invited to a private meeting in Sindelfingen, Germany, separately claimed Mercedes intends to build only 30 units worldwide. That figure remains unconfirmed.
A less extreme CLE 63 Black Series could also follow with a longer production run. In contrast to the winged Mythos-spec prototype, some recent CLE test cars have appeared less aggressive, which could point to a lower-tier Black Series version. Even so, both development paths center on returning V8 power to the CLE range.
